It was worth a try, but the Jets were apparently unable to find a trade partner for Eric Decker. This news broke shortly after one possible candidate (Baltimore) filled that need by signing Jeremy Maclin:
Jets are releasing Eric Decker, per source. With other teams wanting NY to eat some Decker salary, NY could not make numbers work for trade.— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) June 12, 2017
The Jets confirmed the move via twitter.
With mandatory mini-camp due to start tomorrow afternoon, it's probably best just to draw a line under this and move on without him. They may even have a youngster in mind that they'll need his roster spot to get a look at.
It's a shame they were unable to add to their draft capital and also that Decker wasn't able to have more impact after the Jets signed him to what turned out to be a very reasonable contract in 2014. He was a good Jet and it will be interesting to see where he heads next and how the Jets fare with him out of the picture.
