Breaking: Jets release G Brian Winters

Here's another big move from the Jets:

A surprise release: Jets are cutting last season’s starting right guard Brian Winters, per source.

As a starting guard, Winters is not expected to be without a job very long.

We had heard there was an expectation that Winters could be released once camp opened and the Jets obviously feel like they can get a similar level of play from someone like Greg Van Roten for less money.

Winters has played well at times over the past few seasons but has rarely been fully healthy and the Jets may now be thinking about using the money they'll save to upgrade next year's team.
