Breaking: Jets to sign center Spencer Long

Here we go again...

Long is capable of playing guard, but presumably fills Wes Johnson's spot as the team's starting center. Johnson graded out as the worst center in the NFL last year so obviously Long should be an upgrade.

The 27-year old Long was a former third round pick and teammate of Jets RFA Brent Qvale at Nebraska. He started 31 games in four seasons with Washington.

After playing left guard in 2015, he moved to center in 2016 and was ranked as the 9th best center in the NFL in pass protection per PFF.

Last year, Long got off to a solid start but then started to struggle with knee tendinitis. He missed a few games and then returned, but continued to struggle so Washington shut him down and reverted to rookie Chase Rouillier, who did a solid job in his absence.

One day, we'll write you a longer scouting report on this guy...
