The Jets officially named Sam Darnold as their starting quarterback today, but we basically already knew that. We're much more interested in what's happening at the other end of the roster.
Having confirmed that they signed Jeremiah Attaochu earlier today, the Jets haven't finished tinkering with their roster and practice squad yet.
They may yet bring in another pass rusher; perhaps this guy:
Orchard had 18.5 sacks in his senior year at Utah, but he hasn't produced much in the NFL since the Browns drafted him in the second round. He started 11 games as a rookie, but just two since and he has five sacks in 34 career games. He's not practice squad eligible, so the Jets must be considering him for an active roster spot.
Kicker Dan Bailey's workout is happening this afternoon, but he's not the only kicker getting a look:
Jets have scheduled a workout with free-agent kicker Matt McCrane tomorrow, I’m told.— Manish Mehta (@MMehtaNYDN) September 3, 2018
McCrane, an undrafted rookie, impressively nailed 53 and 54 yard field goals during preseason but the Cardinals opted to keep veteran Phil Dawson.
The Jets also had a workout scheduled with wide receiver Breshad Perriman today, but he's also working out for the Giants and Bills.
We'll let you know if any more are reported to have been scheduled.
