Camp Recap: Day 10 - 8/6/2018

The Jets were on the field today for their seventh practice. Here were some of the things that happened based on reports from those on site:

  • Steve McLendon missed his third practice in a row and Kelvin Beachum remains out as well. Jordan Leggett returned on a limited basis though;
  • Other missing were Quincy Enunwa, Kevin Pierre-Louis, Parry Nickerson, Thomas Rawls, Deon Simon, Kacy Rodgers II and David Bass;
  • Brent Qvale was starting at left tackle for Kelvin Beachum, while Frankie Luvu and Brandon Copeland again started as the two outside linebackers with Luvu making a couple of plays in the backfield;
  • Teddy Bridgewater and Sam Darnold received more first-team reps this week;
  • Darnold had a impressive day, going through his progressions to complete a touchdown to Trenton Cannon on his third read during red zone drills. He later audibled to a screen pass that gained 30+ with Dakota Dozier leading the way for Lucky Whitehead and threw a touchdown to Clive Walford on a play action rollout;
  • Darnold ran the situational walkthrough with the first unit to end practice for the first time. One negative was that the offense had seven penalties with him at quarterback today.
  • Marcus Maye limped off after breaking up a pass, but did return to action later on;
  • Josh McCown connected with Charles Johnson on a deep ball, after which Teddy Bridgewater connected with Robby Anderson on another deep ball;
  • Cannon continued to feature, breaking a long touchdown run and producing as a safety value in the passing game but appeared to tweak his ankle or foot late in the practice;
  • Avery Williamson had an active day against the run;
  • Andre Roberts and Whitehead both had drops in team periods, although Whitehead atoned later with some nice open field moves;
  • Jordan Jenkins went down holding his arm/chest at one point but was back on the field with his arm wrapped soon afterwards; and
  • The Jets released their first depth chart today but it's a bit of a joke and probably out of date already in some places. Nathan Shepherd is listed as a starter but the other rookies are all on the third or fourth team apart from Dakoda Shepley, Foley Fatukasi and Dimitri Flowers, who are all on the second team.
