Camp Recap: Day 12 - 8/9/2018

The Jets were on the field today for their ninth practice. Here were some of the things that happened based on reports from those on site:

  • Nobody was in pads today and a truncated practice was held with tomorrow being a day off before Friday's preseason opener (and next week's practices being joint sessions with Washington);
  • Steve McLendon, Jeremy Clark, Kacy Rodgers II, Jordan Leggett, David Bass, Deon Simon, Quincy Enunwa, Kevin Pierre-Louis, Parry Nickerson, Thomas Rawls and Kelvin Beachum were either absent or working with trainers over on the side and presumably will not play on Friday, although Enunwa's hand cast is now off;
  • Teddy Bridgewater opened up as the quarterback with Brandon Copeland and Jordan Jenkins as the starting outside linebackers as team periods got underway;
  • Brent Qvale, Trenton Cannon and Chris Herndon all also worked with the first unit;
  • At wide receiver, Tre McBride was working with the first unit, while Chad Hansen was down on the third unit;
  • Lorenzo Mauldin limped off during practice;
  • There was some shaky special teams play as Cairo Santos missed two field goals, Lac Edwards shanked a couple of punts and Trenton Cannon muffed one;
  • In 7-on-7 red zone drills, Darnold had success finding his tight ends as he hit Chris Herndon, Clive Walford (twice) and Neal Sterling with touchdown passes following an earlier Walford drop;
  • Linebacker Neville Hewitt, who plays the same role as the injured Pierre-Louis, flashed with a couple of plays on defense;
  • Back-up safeties Doug Middleton, Terrence Brooks and JJ Wilcox all made plays;
  • Herndon also limped off after another impressive catch;
  • Darnold continues to struggle on the deep ball, this time being intercepted by Terrell Sinkfield on an underthrow;
  • Teddy Bridgewater threw a touchdown pass to Jermaine Kearse in team periods; and
  • Time ran on out Darnold's drive as Terrelle Pryor couldn't hold onto a diving catch attempt in the end zone.
