Camp Recap: Day 16 - 8/13/2018

The Jets were on the field today for their tenth practice; another joint practice with Washington in Richmond. Here were some of the things that happened based on reports from those on site:

  • Tight ends Chris Herndon, Neal Sterling and Clive Walford again missed practice;
  • Trumaine Johnson got beaten deep for a big play in one-on-ones;
  • Terrelle Pryor beat Deshazor Everett deep for a touchdown in one-on-one drills;
  • The Jets gave up a long touchdown on a busted coverage as team periods got underway;
  • Neville Hewitt impressed again, blowing up a run in the backfield;
  • Derrick Jones came up with another interception, this time on a diving effort off a deflected pass;
  • Rookie safety Brandon Bryant was involved in the first altercation of the day;
  • Sam Darnold made a couple of nice throws to Chad Hansen and Andre Roberts rolling left in the first set of team periods;
  • Xavier Cooper, Foley Fatukasi, Jordan Jenkins and Nathan Shepherd looked good in pass rush drills but Trent Williams again shut down Leonard Williams;
  • Jordan Leggett flashed with a diving catch from a Teddy Bridgewater pass and a nice gain after the catch on a shorter pass;
  • Darnold completed a long touchdown pass to Robby Anderson over two defenders, although it was apparently slightly underthrown;
  • Brent Qvale and Jonotthan Harrison were once again working with the first unit on offense;
  • The Jets pass defense struggled against Alex Smith, including Avery Williamson, who gave up a big pass play to Vernon Davis;
  • Terrelle Pryor had another good practice, punctuated by a one-handed catch;
  • Darnold opened up again in 11-v-11 drills, but the drive stalled when Qvale was called for a hold on third down;
  • His second drive also stalled early;
  • Smith had more success with the Jets back on defense, breaking away on a keeper and completing two quick passes as they marched downfield in three plays. Davis beat Doug Middleton and JJ Wilcox for the touchdown;
  • Bridgewater's drive also stalled, despite completions to Pryor and ArDarius Stewart, who had a good practice;
  • Pryor told the media that he broke his ankle in May but is healthy now; and
  • Todd Bowles confirmed that Lorenzo Mauldin did not make the trip with the team due to injury.
