Camp Recap: Day 21 - 8/18/2018

The Jets were back home for practice this afternoon. There are just four practices left after today and then they will break camp. Here were some of the main things that happened, as reported by media on site:

  • This was another unpadded practice;
  • Jeremy Clark did not practice after pulling his hamstring in Thursday night's game. Trumaine Johnson also didn't practice, with Buster Skrine working with the first unit in his place;
  • Quincy Enunwa, Terrelle Pryor, Neal Sterling, Isaiah Crowell, Parry Nickerson, Trenton Cannon, Kelvin Beachum, Lorenzo Mauldin, Brian Winters and Chris Herndon returned to practice;
  • Special teams coach Brant Boyer ripped into Anthony Wint after a drill. Josh Martin was reportedly giving the rookie advice for a few minutes afterwards;
  • Lucky Whitehead muffed a punt. Andre Roberts and Trenton Cannon were also working on catching punts;
  • Josh McCown started off at quarterback with the first unit, but Beachum and Winters were still being held out for Brent Qvale and Jonotthan Harrison;
  • Safety Marcus Maye was back working with the first unit on defense. Rashard Robinson also got some first-team reps at cornerback and had a good pass break-up;
  • The quarterbacks started off the team periods hot as they combined to complete over 20 in a row, with Robby Anderson, Pryor, Enunwa and each of the tight ends getting involved. Sam Darnold was the first to throw an incompletion;
  • Neville Hewitt (twice) and Darryl Roberts each broke up passes in team periods;
  • Brandon Bryant intercepted McCown on a deep ball;
  • Derrick Jones was beaten several times in coverage as the Jets tested him regularly;
  • The offense was sloppy in terms of penalties all day and Todd Bowles eventually made the whole team run sprints;
  • Darnold still got the majority of the first team reps;
  • McCown got his first reps with the second unit since camp began, immediately connecting downfield to Enunwa; and
  • After practice, Bowles said that Johnson strained his hamstring in the game and was held out as a precaution but will "hopefully" be back soon.
