Countdown to Camp: 47

As we look ahead to training camp in late July, we're taking a daily retrospective look back at some random people, moments and games from Jets history...

The Current 47

David Bass was a late re-addition to the roster, but it was one that made sense because Bass was probably the Jets' most consistent edge rusher last year. He'll be in the mix to crack the rotation in 2018.

The Greatest

Cornerback Jerry Holmes intercepted 16 passes in six years as a Jet, including two in the postseason. He had six interceptions in 1986.

Here's a nice play he made in the playoffs:

The other 47's

In 1971, Joe Namath again missed most of the season and the team went 6-8. We detailed that earlier in our countdown, here.

47-yard disaster

People forget that Doug Brien was a solid kicker for the Jets in 2003 and 2004, making 84% of his field goals, every one of his extra points and three game winners, including one in the playoffs against the Chargers. However, the following week, when he had a chance to send the 2004 Jets to the AFC title game from 47 yards, this happened:

47 on the scoreboard

The 2008 Jets blew out a bad Rams team 47-3 thanks to 149 yards and three touchdowns from Thomas Jones. Calvin Pace also returned a fumble for a touchdown. The Jets also had a 47-10 loss against the Raiders in 1995.

Let us know if there's any connections to 47 that we missed...
