Countdown to Camp: 54

As we look ahead to training camp in late July, we're going to take a daily retrospective look back at some random people, moments and games from Jets history...

The Current 54

Avery Williamson was a huge pick-up for the Jets this offseason but how well can he replace Demario Davis? Williamson's ability to take on blockers in the running game could benefit Darron Lee but it remains to be seen how they will employ him in coverage.

The Greatest

Wahoo McDaniel was only a Jet for two seasons, but he was the team's star at linebacker. A reader once relayed a story that during games the public address announcer used to give McDaniel credit for every tackle, even when he wasn't on the field.

McDaniel, who went on to be a pro wrestling star, scored this touchdown in 1964:

The 1964 season saw the Jets enter week eight with just two losses, only to then lose six of their last seven to end up with only five wins. We detailed that earlier in our countdown, here.

54 wins (times three)

In an interesting quirk, there's a three-way tie between each of their current division rivals in terms of who the Jets have won the most games against in their history.

Let us know if there's any connections to 54 that we missed...
