As we look ahead to training camp in late July, we're going to take a daily retrospective look back at some random people, moments and games from Jets history...
The Current 89
Jalin Marshall was the custodian of the number 89 jersey until his release yesterday. Perhaps rookie tight end Chris Herndon will assume it.
The Greatest
Jerricho Cotchery was legitimately one of the best draft picks of the 2000's with the Jets getting themselves a bargain in the fourth round. He had a thousand yard season and some huge moments with the Jets. Who could forget his version of the helmet catch against the Patriots or the amazing diving catch against the Browns after he injured himself at the start of the play?

The '89 season
1989 was a rough year for the Jets, who ended up 4-12. This was the year when the fans' chants that "Joe Must Go" were finally heard and Joe Walton's tenure with the team came to an end.
After losing their first two games, the Jets came from 30-19 down in the fourth quarter to win a wild one 40-33 in Miami on Roger Vick's game-winning touchdown catch. However, it was their only win in the first eight games.
The Jets' lone pro bowler Erik McMillan had a phenomenal year with 299 yards and three touchdowns on six interceptions and two fumble recoveries. On offense, Johnny Hector led the team in rushing and Al Toon led them in receptions, but Jojo Townsell was the biggest surprise, leading the team in receiving yards as he had 45 of his 70 career receptions in 1989.
