Countdown to the draft: 7 days to go

The 2022 draft is almost here and we're counting down the days...

With the 7th pick

Somehow, the Jets have never picked seventh in the NFL draft and that will continue for at least another year barring some kind of trade.

Seven years ago

The 2015 draft saw the Jets select Leonard Williams with the sixth overall pick. He went to one pro bowl as a Jet and landed them a useful return via trade. Every other pick the Jets made that year was a flop.

In the 7th round

Nose tackle Jason Ferguson - a key member of the 1998 division title winning team - is widely regarded as the best seventh round pick in franchise history. The Jets also added useful contributors like Abdul Salaam and Dwayne White and a key contributor to the Super Bowl team in John Elliott.

Number 7s in the draft

Quarterback Ken O'Brien was the best Jets draft pick to wear number 7, although there is still a sense of regret over taking him instead of Dan Marino. Interestingly, O'Brien initially had the number 16 jersey, although he never wore it in a game.

The current number 7, punter Braden Mann, was also drafted by the Jets - in the sixth round two years ago.
