Free Agency Update: Where we stand

The Jets have made several moves so far, although they haven't filed the paperwork or officially announced the deal on several of them. Let's take this chance to recap the moves so far, including departures and near misses.

We'll go position-by-position to give a sense of where needs still exist:

Quarterbacks

Signed: Teddy Bridgewater (not yet filed/announced) - reportedly for one-year, $5m plus potential incentives of up to $10m on top of that
Re-signed: Josh McCown (Reportedly one year, $10m)

Interest: The team was reportedly in the mix for Kirk Cousins and may even have offered more than the three year, $84m deal he got from the Vikings. Reports indicate the Jets are still expected to be in the mix for a high draft pick at the quarterback position

Running Backs

Signed: Isaiah Crowell (filed, but not yet announced) - reportedly for $12m over four years, with $4m fully guaranteed, $2m more guaranteed for injury to be fully guaranteed next March and a $2m year one cap hit
Re-signed: Fullback Lawrence Thomas was brought back on a one-year minimum salary ERFA tender

Interest: Jets were reportedly in the mix for Jerick McKinnon, even after Crowell was reported to have agreed terms, but he joined the 49ers for $30m over four years. The Jets were also in the mix for Dion Lewis who signed for Tennessee for a reported $23m over four years. The Jets had also previously been linked with Orleans Darkwa and Damien Williams, each of whom are still available.

Offensive Line

Signed: Spencer Long (filed, but not yet announced) - terms yet to be disclosed
Re-signed: Brent Qvale got a right of first refusal RFA tender

Interest: It's not impossible that the Jets still bring in another interior lineman. They were previously linked with Weston Richburg, who signed a five year, $47m deal with the 49ers and Ryan Jensen, who is still available. There is also reportedly some interest in bringing back Ben Ijalana on a cheaper deal.

Pass catchers

Signed: Nobody yet
Re-signed: Quincy Enunwa got a 2nd round RFA tender, Neal Sterling got an original round RFA tender, Eric Tomlinson was brought back on a one-year minimum salary ERFA tender.

Interest: The Jets were apparently prepared to up their offer to retain Austin Seferian-Jenkins but it sounds like he might be going to Jacksonville. The Jags have already signed three other pass catchers. The Jets also supposedly had some level of interest in Trey Burton and Allen Robinson but it didn't sound like they were in the mix as both signed early deals with the Bears. Ryan Grant, who signed for the Ravens, was apparently someone the Jets were interested in.

Defensive Line

Signed: Nobody yet
Re-signed: The team opted not to tender RFA Xavier Cooper

Interest: The Jets were in the mix for DaQuan Jones but he went back to the Titans for $21m over three years. Muhammad Wilkerson was obviously never going to come back here and he signed a one-year deal for $5m plus $3m in potential incentives with the Packers. Previous reports of a potential reunion with Sheldon Richardson, who is still available, have been downplayed because indications are that any interest there was just from the player's side, and even then probably solely for leverage purposes.

Edge defenders

Signed: Nobody yet
Re-signed: The team opted not to bring back ERFA Freddie Bishop

Interest: It was apparently between the Jets and Giants for for Cardinals OLB Kareem Martin. He opted to join the Giants for $7m a year, which seems high for someone who has never recorded two sacks in a season and hasn't been productive in terms of tackles and pressure numbers.

Linebackers

Signed: Avery Williamson (not yet filed/announced) - for a reported $22.5m over three years with $16m in guarantees.

Interest: The Jets tried to bring Demario Davis back for about $4m per year but he eventually signed with the Saints for $24m over three years, with $18m guaranteed. They didn't seem to make much of an effort to bring back Julian Stanford, who joined the Bills on a two-year, $3m deal.

Cornerbacks

Signed: Trumaine Johnson (not yet filed/announced) - for a reported $72.5m over five years with $34m in full guarantees and another $11m guaranteed for injury only.

Interest: The Jets were reportedly interested in Malcolm Butler, who went to Tennessee on a five year, $61m deal. The team may also have interest in the recently-released Tyrann Matheiu and could still re-sign Morris Claiborne.

Safeties

Signed: Nobody yet
Re-signed: Rontez Miles got a right of first refusal RFA tender, Terrence Brooks re-signed on a two-year deal and Doug Middleton was brought back on a one-year minimum salary ERFA tender

Interest: The team was reportedly interested in Ron Parker, who is still available.

Special Teams

Signed: Nobody yet

Interest: The team needs a kicker now after Chandler Cantanzaro signed a three year, $9m deal with the Bucs. None of the players they've brought in will have much of a role on special teams, but a few of the guys they missed out on (notably Lewis and McKinnon) would have helped the return game.
