How the hell am I supposed to know who this is? - Jarrick Bernard-Converse

In an occasional feature, we briefly highlight any of the lesser-known players that make an unexpected impact during camp, preseason or the regular season.

Today, we focus on defensive back Jarrick Bernard-Converse:

What he did:

Bernard-Converse was a late-round draft pick last season but he flew under the radar because he was on the PUP list for most of the year. Late in the season he was activated but played almost exclusively on special teams.

He's a versatile player but the Jets were listing him as a safety. However, head coach Robert Saleh confirmed last week that he's now a cornerback and he's been making some plays within that role.

Bernard-Converse also finished Tuesday's practice with an interception of Tyrod Taylor.

Outlook:

The Jets' starters are pretty much locked in, (although Deuce Carter did hurt his ankle on Wednesday so he might miss some time). It's therefore likely to be between Bernard-Converse and players like Brandin Echols and Qwan'tez Stiggers for key bench roles. Recent addition Kendall Sheffield could also be in the mix.

Bernard-Converse's versatility helps him here, as he can play outside or inside and also add value as a possible emergency safety.

The fact he contributed on special teams last year will also boost his chances of getting a spot on the 53. It seems likely he will contribute in some fashion this season, but it will be interesting to see how he fares in preseason.
