How the hell am I supposed to know who this is? - Nate Lynn

In an occasional feature, we briefly highlight any of the lesser-known players that make an unexpected impact during camp, preseason or the regular season.

Today, we focus on edge rusher Nate Lynn:

What he did:

You can certainly be forgiven for not knowing who the hell Lynn is because as recently as this time last week he wasn't even on the team. However, he really showed up in his first Jets game.

That wasn't the only sack Lynn registered, as he had another on a good outside rush. He also set up another sack for a teammate with another good outside rush:

Aside from this, Lynn was in on one stop against the run and really impressed on special teams where he blew up a kickoff return and made the tackle himself.

Outlook:

The Jets' top four edge rushers seem locked in - Kingsley Enagbare, David Bailey, Joseph Ossai and Will McDonald - but if they opt to keep five, the next spot is seriously up for grabs.

With his performance yesterday, including making an impact on special teams, Lynn has given himself a viable chance to be in the mix for that spot, or at least a place on the practice squad.

In college, Lynn was primarily an interior lineman but he's too small to play that role at the NFL level. However, he seems to be adjusting to playing on the edge.

This is Lynn's third preseason campaign, the first of which saw him playing on Aaron Glenn's Lions defense only to then miss the entire season with a shoulder injury. He's yet to make his NFL debut but with four sacks in five career preseason games, he could be earning himself a longer look.
