A minor injury blow, but perhaps not as bad as it could have been:
#Jets WR Vyncint Smith is expected to have surgery Tuesday with specialist Dr. William Meyers for his core muscle injury, source said. Likely out at least a month.— Tom Pelissero (@TomPelissero) August 17, 2020
Smith, is expected to miss 5-8 weeks according to his agent with opening day four weeks away. It will be up to the Jets to decide whether to carry him on the main roster or take advantage of some of the league's temporary measures which enable more players than usual to return to the active roster after being placed on injured reserve (and within three weeks in some cases).
Smith, who was a candidate to start on offense as well as contributing as a primary gunner and kickoff return man on special teams is not eligible to go onto the PUP list.
