Injury Update: Austin misses practice, Poole ruled out for the season

The Jets released Thursday's injury report:

Austin apparently suffered a neck injury in practice yesterday and is getting an MRI to determine the severity. Adam Gase also confirmed that Brian Poole will not return this season because he's getting surgery on an injured shoulder. Poole is a free agent at the end of the season.

Rookie Bryce Hall and Lamar Jackson will presumably start on the outside if Austin cannot go and Arthur Maulet will move into the slot. Maulet could also start outside because either of the other two cornerbacks on the roster - Corey Ballentine and Javelin Guidry - could play in the slot instead. The Jets also have Elijah Campbell and Zane Lewis on the practice squad

Gase also said a safety could play more reps at cornerback this week. Ashtyn Davis and Bennett Jackson have played cornerback in the past so could fill that role in an emergency.

In more encouraging news, Gase confirmed that Perriman should be good to go on Sunday and Anderson's return is also a good sign. The team now faces a decision at the kicker position too with Sam Ficken returning to full practice.

For the Chargers, both Bryan Bulaga and Casey Heyward were limited, having practiced full yesterday, so that might be something to watch in each case.
