Injury Update: Smith out for the season, Onyemata may return
The Jets have confirmed some of the fallout from Packers week at the start of Lions week. As reported yesterday, Arian Smith, Marcelino McCrary-Ball and David Onyemata went on injured reserve.
Aaron Glenn has today confirmed that Smith suffered a torn ACL and has had season-ending surgery. In addition, Onyemata also had surgery on a core injury (presumably a sports hernia), although he should be able to return this season. If it is a hernia, the typical recovery time is usually 6-8 weeks.
No update was provided on McCrary-Ball, but Joseph Ossai returned to practice today and should be able to play soon.
Other updates were as follows:
- Mason Taylor hurt his thumb in the Packers game but Glenn said he will be "fine". However a previous report suggested his availability for Sunday is not certain.
- David Bailey has an elbow injury but it shouldn't prevent him from practicing or playing this week. He was to be limited, as was Ossai.
- Kiko Mauigoa, who was injured in the game, did not practice.
- Minkah Fitzpatrick and Kene Nwangwu are not ready to return to pracice yet, either.
As for the Lions, they have a ton of injury concerns, especially in the secondary, which is struggling.
