Jets Camp Practice Recap: 7/22/23

Media was on hand for the Jets' training camp practice today. Here's what went down according to those on hand:

  • Duane Brown was at practice for the first time but did not participate;
  • Fans were in attendance for the first time and the action was intense even though the players are not in pads yet;
  • Jermaine Johnson, now listed as a linebacker, is now wearing number 11. His role likely won't change;
  • The defense looked good early with Quinnen Williams blowing up an Ace Carter run and John Franklin-Myers picking up a sack. Williams later added a sack of his own;
  • The second string offense got off to a good start as Zach Wilson started up 5-for-5 with a nice pass to Allen Lazard over the middle. They later connected again as Lazard made a diving grab;
  • There were multiple fights with Johnson, Micheal Clemons, Kenny Yeboah and Jeremy Ruckert among those involved;
  • Travis Dye impressed with a nice gain on a cutback run;
  • Sauce Gardner and Garrett Wilson battled well as first Gardner broke up a downfield pass from Rodgers but then Wilson made a catch and a nice move on a slant route;
  • Quinton Jefferson had potential sacks on back-to-back plays;
  • Rodgers finished up by getting hot in the red zone, throwing touchdowns to Tyler Conklin, Corey Davis and Mecole Hardman. Conklin made a leaping grab on a back shoulder throw, Davis made a diving catch after Rodgers rolled out and Hardman made a top-tapping catch at the back of the end zone on a high throw; and
  • Greg Zuerlein made all five of his field goal attempts, including one from 50 yards.
