Jets Camp Practice Recap - 8/15/23

Media was on hand for the Jets' training camp practice today. Here's what went down according to those on hand:

  • One day after they signed Dalvin Cook, the Jets activated Breece Hall from the PUP list, putting to rest concerns that Hall not being ready was the reason behind that move;
  • Jeremy Ruckert, who injured the AC joint in his shoulder on Saturday night, was working on a side field;
  • Carl Lawson missed practice again with a back injury;
  • Joe Tippmann got first-team reps for the first time at camp;
  • Wes Schweitzer was continuing to work at right guard with Alijah Vera-Tucker not practicing;
  • John Franklin-Myers beat Billy Turner to blow up a run and Quinton Jefferson had a sack at the start of team drills;
  • Tight ends were guilty of multiple drops early;
  • Mekhi Becton started off with the second team where he dominated Will McDonald on one rep. He then got some first team reps at left tackle when Max Mitchell hurt his back on a screen pass;
  • Greg Senat also got in with the first team, just for one snap before Becton joined the fray;
  • Garrett Wilson, back in team drills, made a catch over the middle;
  • Becton also stayed in to work with the second unit and then Mitchell returned and got some second team reps;
  • Tippmann also saw action as the right guard on the third unit;
  • Mitchell returned for 11-on-11 and the starting offense struggled to move the ball with Jermaine Johnson recording a sack;
  • The second team had more success with a big gain on a Zach Wilson to Bam Knight dump-off. He then hit Irvin Charles with a downfield pass and then a short touchdown;
  • Rodgers had a pass deflected by Quincy Williams and started to show some frustration with his receivers as they went three-and-out again;
  • The third team scored a touchdown on a wild play where a defensive player deflected Tim Boyle's pass to Xavier Gipson who ran it in;
  • Quinnen Williams beat Laken Tomlinson for another sack as Rodgers continued to show frustration;
  • Rodgers was intercepted by Jordan Whitehead as he overthrew Mecole Hardman under heavy pressure and came up limping. He stayed in though and didn't get any medical attention;
  • Malik Taylor compounded matters when he had a drop with the first unit;
  • The second unit started off the red zone session with a Wilson to Charles touchdown;
  • Rodgers was sacked twice - by Solomon Thomas and Johnson again - in the red zone session, but broke a streak of seven straight incompletions with a dump off to Ace Carter in the flat and then hit Garrett Wilson on a whip route against DJ Reed for a touchdown. He hit Wilson again for a two-pointer on the next play;
  • Greg Zuerlein had a rare miss (but made the rest) in the kicking gauntlet; and
  • The team will now have a joint practice with the Bucs tomorrow. They were going to have a joint practice on Thursday too but that is now going to be a regular practice;
