Jets Training Camp Practice - 8/12/25 (Joint Practice with the Giants)

Media were in attendance today for the Jets' joint practice with the New York Giants. Here's what went down according to those on hand:

  • John Simpson, Quinnen Williams, Mason Taylor, Xavier Gipson and Jermaine Johnson were back in uniform and at practice but Tyrod Taylor remains out;
  • Isaiah Davis and Allen Lazard did not practice after each suffered an injury on Saturday, but Kene Nwangwu was back;
  • Giants not practicing were headlined by Malik Nabers but also included Dru Phillips, Evan Neal, Cam Skattebo and Jalin Hyatt;
  • 7 on 7 opened with Justin Fields going 4-of-4. Josh Reynolds, Breece Hall, Mason Taylor and Braelon Allen had the catches with Allen going up over Bobby Okereke on a wheel route;
  • Fields' next session saw him complete three in a row to Garrett Wilson with Deonte Banks on him, but his last pass to Reynolds was broken up;
  • Brandon Smith made a sliding catch from Brady Cook;
  • Joe Tippmann had a bad snap and was bull rushed by Abdul Carter for a pressure. However, both plays ended up being successful on an Allen run and a Fields pass to Tyler Johnson, as Fields started 12 for 13;
  • Taylor made a diving catch on an Adrian Martinez throw;
  • On defense, Jay Tufele and Will McDonald each made a play in the backfield, Jamien Sherwood batted down a pass and Marcelino McCrary-Ball stuffed a run but the Jets did give up a 20-yard rush;
  • Micheal Clemons lost contain on an outside run and a big pass by Jaxson Dart was completed over Malachi Moore;
  • Fields opened 11-on-11 with five straight completions, all of them short;
  • In a move the ball period, the Jets' first team went 3-and-out twice with a pass batted down at the line, two runs for a loss and two sacks by Brian Burns, who beat Armand Membou twice;
  • The Giants also struggled to move it with sacks by Clemons and Tufele and McDonald combining with Quincy Williams to stop a run;
  • Another move the ball period for the Jets' first team ended in a four and out. In all Fields was 0-for-4 in 10 plays, only two of which gained positive yards and sacked three times;
  • In red zone work, Theo Johnson caught a touchdown between Andre Cisco and Tony Adams and Devin Singletary ran for a score before Darius Slayton added a third;
  • The Jets responded with Fields throwing a three-yard touchdown on a sidearm pass to Jeremy Ruckert but the rest of the drive had two sacks, an incompletion and a run stuff;
  • Phidarian Mathis got into it with some Giants players. He was, of course, a member of their NFC rivals in Washington;
  • The second team defense eventually gave up a touchdown pass to Dart having shut them out for several plays prior to that in red zone work;
  • Cook limped off with a lower leg issue in the final red zone session; and
  • Martinez threw touchdowns to Jamaal Pritchett and Arian Smith.

Note: The teams practice again tomorrow at 10 a.m. ET again. The Jets will then have a media-free walkthrough on Thursday and a day-off on Friday ahead of the preseason meeting between these teams.
