Jets Training Camp Practice Recap - 8/1/25

Media were in attendance today for the Jets' practice. Here's what went down according to those on hand:

  • The Jets were in shells, having been in pads for the previous two practices;
  • It was a lighter practice and a little sloppy early on, with some pre-snap penalties;
  • Braelon Allen, having missed the last two practices with knee soreness, made his return and participated in team drills, but Quinnen Williams (who tweaked a calf yesterday) and John Simpson did not practice;
  • With Simpson out, the Jets experimented with a line-up that had Josh Myers at center and Joe Tippmann at left guard;
  • Justin Fields found Garrett Wilson for 10 yards against zone coverage;
  • Fields also gained 10 with his legs as nothing was open for him when he dropped back;
  • Malachi Corley had a drop with a defender draped all over him;
  • Isaiah Davis had a long run negated for a holding call;
  • Jeremy Ruckert had an acrobatic catch in traffic for 20+ after Fields was flushed from the pocket;
  • Fields then connected on a good downfield throw from the pocket to Wilson, with the throw just eluding a diving Andre Cisco;
  • Stone Smartt was wide open for a long touchdown from Tyrod Taylor;
  • Rashad Weaver deflected a pass at the line;
  • Taylor then connected on another long touchdown pass as he threw a bomb to the undrafted Quentin Skinner;
  • Corley had a contested grab and big yardage after the catch on a throw from Adrian Martinez;
  • Arian Smith impressively beat Sauce Gardner on a deep completion from Fields that would have been a Tony Adams sack in a real game;
  • Fields had another good downfield throw to Allen Lazard for big yardage and then hit Ruckert on a crosser for good yardage;
  • Jamaal Pritchett had a deep catch although he also committed a pre-snap penalty on the play so it didn't count;
  • The Taylors made an impact as Mason went up for a 25-yard catch and ran it in for the touchdown from Fields and Tyrod hit Smith on a crosser, as he adjusted well to make the grab;
  • Qwan'tez Stiggers made a leaping interception in the end zone on another Tyrod pass, although that was probably a Marcelino McCrary-Ball sack and Taylor likely only threw it because it was the end of the drive;
  • Fields followed up by threading a tight window throw downfield to Josh Reynolds;
  • Smith made another big play with a 20-25 yard touchdown on a dart from Taylor working against Azareye'h Thomas;
  • Fields ended the day with five incompletions in a row having started 12-for-12. Gardner and Cisco broke up passes on the final drive of the day; and
  • Nick Folk connected on a field goal to complete the drive the field drill and end practice on a positive note.

Note: Tomorrow is scheduled to be the Green-White Scrimmage with fans in attendance but the usual start time of 8:30 a.m. ET. After that, Sunday is a day off.
