Jets Training Camp Practice Recap - 8/5/25
Media were in attendance today for the Jets' practice. Here's what went down according to those on hand:
- The Jets were in pads for the first time this week;
- Quinnen Williams, Kris Boyd and John Simpson missed practice again, as did Mason Taylor, who has an ankle injury and Tyrod Taylor, who has a knee issue. None of these injuries are expected to be long-term;
- Xavier Gipson and Malachi Moore returned to practice, although Moore walked off gingerly towards the end;
- Will McDonald was not at practice and Byron Cowart, who is currently listed as a starting defensive tackle left the field on a cart;
- Breece Hall and Azareye'h Thomas also left practice and went inside with a trainer but then Hall returned soon afterwards;
- Malachi Corley fumbled after a Quincy Williams hit in a one-on-one tackling drill;
- As noted yesterday, the Jets had planned to work on being backed up at their own goal line today. The first such series was a mess as the Jets had three penalties and two short runs before Brandon Stephens broke up a pass. Micheal Clemons had a good run stuff;
- Brady Cook made a nice downfield completion to Pokey Wilson in the same backed-up situation;
- In conventional team drills, Isaiah Davis had a first down run and Williams made the stop on a short pass from Fields to Garrett Wilson;
- On the third unit, Cook found Andrew Beck in the flat for a first down and Jackson Sirmon had a good run stop;
- Andre Cisco intercepted a struggling Fields on a late downfield throw near the sideline. That was after three dropbacks ended with a scramble and two incompletions;
- A better Fields throw was then dropped by Allen Lazard over the middle during a drive the field drill, and his scramble on 3rd-and-long after a Rashad Weaver sack came up well short. He did complete short passes to Jeremy Ruckert and Wilson (for a first down) on the drive, but also had one broken up by Deuce Carter;
- In 7-on-7, Fields was 1-for-4 with an interception by Tony Adams. He completed one to Wilson but Sauce Gardner had a pass breakup;
- Cook impressed again, on a downfield completion to Jamaal Pritchett for 20+;
- On his next drive Fields got the Jets down to the 8-yard line, with a nice Braelon Allen run behind an Olu Fashanu block, a 20+ yard completion to Stone Smartt and two short throws to Wilson. However, there was then a holding penalty and a Stephens interception, off Ruckert's hands;
- The next drive stalled after short completions to Ruckert and Hall when Clemons recorded a third down sack; and
- In an end-of-game situation, the drive stalled when Fields tried to clock it but Hall hadn't lined up yet so there was a game-ending penalty.
Note: The Jets have a day off tomorrow before returning to practice on Wednesday morning.
