QuickFix: Jets 16 Giants 22

Aside from a few nice moments tonight, the overall performance from the Jets was unacceptably sloppy, as the Giants overcame a slow start to control most of the game.

On their opening drive, Sam Darnold drove the Jets downfield and they took the lead on a Bilal Powell touchdown run. Then, after the Giants tied the score on a punt return and were in position to take the lead after Morris Claiborne got burned on a deep ball down to the six, Avery Williamson forced a fumble and Leonard Williams returned it into Giants territory. From there, they punched it in again, this time on a Darnold pass to Terrelle Pryor.

Thereafter, the Jets' discipline deserted them, as they gave up another long punt return, lost the ball deep in their own territory on a Trenton Cannon fumble and committed far too many penalties (13-108 yards). However, they kept their record of not having given up a touchdown on defense all preseason by holding the Giants to four first half field goals.

After a scoreless third quarter, the Giants converted on 3rd-and-19 as Davis Webb completed a long pass from his own endzone over Juston Burris, then added to their lead with a fifth field goal.

Teddy Bridgewater, once again going against reserves, completed seven passes in a row to get the Jets down inside the five but the Jets settled for a field goal to pull within six with less than three minutes left. However, the Giants were able to run out most of the remaining time and held on easily for the win.

We'll be back early in the morning and throughout the day with in-depth analysis from the game.
