Roster/Injury News: Jets claim Chris Smith
The Jets have made a roster move, per sources, claiming former Rams defensive back Chris Smith II to fill the open roster spot from putting Justin Fields on injured reserve.
Smith is a former fifth round safety out of Georgia who won two national titles. At the NFL level he has never started a game and hasn't played much on defense, recording 10 tackles. He is still only 25, lacks size and ran a 4.62 in the 40-yard dash.
The first injury report of Patriots week is also out:
The Jets were hopeful Taylor would return this week and McDonald has missed a lot of practice time but usually suits up. Mauigoa and Tufele have been less reliable though in terms of their availability.
The Patriots were also without several players and a key coach, but they added a Smith of their own; former Jets wideout Brandon Smith was added to their practice squad.
