Roster News: Ace Carter to IR, Davis downgraded to doubtful

The Jets have made some roster moves ahead of Sunday's game.

We knew Carter was out for 2-to-3 games, so this makes sense for him. Clearly they don't intend to rush him back in three weeks coming off a high ankle sprain so they buy themselves another roster spot which Walter takes.

It's possible Walter, who showed flashes of pass catching ability before being released in preseason, could be active ahead of La'Mical Perine, who is yet to find his way with this coaching staff. Alternatively, perhaps he will takeover kickoff duties so that Tevin Coleman can increase his workload in the offensive backfield.

With Mike White and Joe Flacco on Covid-19 reserve, the Jets announced earlier in the week that they planned to make Josh Johnson the number two quarterback on Sunday. Zach Wilson will, of course, start. However, if Johnson is called upon the Jets will hope for similar results to his 300-yard game in Indianapolis - hopefully without the opponent first building an unassailable lead this time.

The Jets also announced that Corey Davis has been downgraded from questionable to doubtful and also that Matt Cavanaugh is unable to coach due to Covid protocols. Davis had been expected to play but must have suffered a setback. Presumably the five receivers remaining on the roster will all be active on Sunday.

Zuniga and Blair fill in on the defensive line again, with Zuniga apparently regaining his spot on the gameday roster over Hamilcar Rashed and Tim Ward.

White, Flacco and Denzel Mims remain on Covid-19 reserve. Zuniga, Blair and Johnson had already been elevated twice from the practice squad but are eligible to do so again because they are Covid replacements rather than standard elevations.

The Jets will need to name seven inactive players on Sunday, one of whom can be an offensive lineman. Davis will presumably be one of the seven.
