Roster News: Jets add Sam Ficken back to the active roster with three others

The Jets have made the following roster moves:

La'Mical Perine was also eligible to be activated but the Jets have opted not to do so this week. Adam Gase said the goal is for him to play the last two games.

The Jets claimed another kicker, Chase McLaughlin, off waivers on Monday and then released Sergio Castillo - who had been kicking while Ficken was hurt - back to the practice squad. However, the team opted to bring back Ficken after he practiced all week so McLaughlin's future with the team is clouded.

While they didn't state this outright, we can surmise that Dawkins is being signed to the 53-man roster and the other two players are being temporarily elevated. That's because you can only elevate two practice squad players each week and Dawkins has already used up his two elevations for the year. The Jets had an open roster spot available.

In those previous two games, Dawkins just contributed on special teams. Smart is being elevated for the second time, having seen brief action on defense against the Patriots and could see some action with Foley Fatukasi out. Finch, an edge rusher, is going onto the active roster for the first time this season.

The Jets will need to name seven inactive players for Sunday, only one of whom can be an offensive lineman. Perine and Fatukasi, who was placed on Covid-19 reserve, do not count towards those seven because they're not on the 53-man roster as the moment.
