Roster News: Jets claim Grupe and Wallace

The Jets were number two in waiver priority and claimed two players:

Grupe was a potential claim many thought was a possibility after he lost out to former Jets kicker Spencer Shrader in Indianapolis. The 27-year old has made 82 percent of his field goals in the NFL and was perfect in the last five games of last season after having been released by the Saints earlier in the season for missing too many kicks. Jason Sanders will presumably now be released, or perhaps there will be a short competition.

Wallace is only 23 and was a third round draft pick two years ago. He started 20 games in his first two seasons, but that's enough to make him the third most experienced linebacker on the current Jets roster. He obviously has been a bit of a disappointment as he was released ahead of his third season but the Jets need depth at a position where they only previously had four players on the 53.

The Jets will be able to start signing any of their players that cleared waivers (everyone apart from Brady Cook, who was claimed by Miami for some reason) to the practice squad today, along with potentially any other unsigned players. We'll update when any are announced but a few have already leaked including this one:

Reeder is an experienced 31-year old who has started 38 games in his career, albeit just one last season. His most productive seasons were 2020 and 2021 where he started a total of 17 games and racked up 172 tackles and five sacks.

New York only kept five linebackers on the 53-man roster so they may need someone to elevate for special teams duties and Reeder could contribute there as he has plenty of special teams experience and was productive with 15 special teams tackles last season.

Edge defender Nate Lynn is also reportedly signing to the practice squad.
