Elflein was a third round pick in 2017 and is still only 26. He's started 44 games in his career but just one this season as he was on injured reserve due to a thumb injury until recently.
He played center in his first few seasons but then moved to guard when the Vikings drafted Garrett Bradbury. He's generally graded out well as a run blocker but badly in pass protection. In 2019, he gave up eight sacks and had eight penalties.
The pickup could mean that the Jets are less than happy with Connor McGovern at center or are otherwise planning to shake things up on the line due to injuries or disappointment with the performance of the group as a whole.
