Roster News: Jets elevate McDermott and Smart for Sunday's game

The Jets announced their roster moves ahead of the game in New England:

No real surprises this week, as the Jets needed to elevate a fourth defensive lineman with Sheldon Rankins out and an eighth offensive lineman with only seven on the roster. Smart spent the entire 2021 season on the practice squad, with Jonathan Marshall (who is on the practice squad with him right now) getting elevated ahead of him four times. However, he did play three times in 2020. The only starters from the current team that played any games for the Jets in 2020 were John Franklin-Myers and Quinnen Williams.

McDermott comes up to be the eighth offensive lineman for the third week in a row. He's now ineligible to be elevated from the practice squad for the rest of the year, but with Max Mitchell (who wasn't activated from injured reserve for this game) due back soon and Laurent Duvernay-Tardif just added to the practice squad, the Jets have other options for offensive line depth.

Notably, the Jets did not elevate Chris Streveler like they did the previous time these two teams met.
