Roster News: Jets place Jefferson on IR, sign Holmes, add two to practice squad

The Jets made a few roster moves to kick off Commanders week:

Jefferson is out for the year after a pretty solid season where he racked up a career-high six sacks in 14 games. He only signed for one year but the Jets could be keen to re-sign the 30-year old.

Holmes has been elevated for the last two games, so he'll move up a spot to become the primary backup with Solomon Thomas now getting a chance to start alongside Quinnen Williams. Thomas has 30 starts in his career but only five since 2018 and none since 2020.

Bruce Hector and Marquiss Spencer will both be candidates to be elevated from the practice squad to be the fourth man in the rotation along with the new addition Jones, who played in four games for the Cardinals as an undrafted rookie last year, recording six tackles, but hasn't played this season.

Patrick is a 26-year old journeyman and the Jets will be his 7th NFL team. He's only played in two games with the 2021 49ers, for whom he carried twice for 12 yards. Over the past three seasons, Patrick has racked up over 400 yards from scrimmage in preseason action with three touchdowns and a 4.8 yards per carry average. He's a big back with poor measurables.
