Roster News: Jets release Gooden, activate Carter

The Jets have made a minor roster move on their day off:

Gooden, a futures signing, was a long-shot to make the roster anyway and had been on the Covid-19 reserve list so that were probably just waiting for him to be cleared.

The team currently has 79 active players plus two more that remain on the Covid-19 reserve list (rookie defensive backs Bryce Hall and Shyheim Carter). The deadline to be at 80 is tomorrow afternoon but players can remain on the Covid-19 reserve list after that and not count towards that limit. Reinstating would then require another roster move to be made to free up a spot.

The team reportedly worked out RB Pete Guerriero today after he had visited with the team during the week, so it's possible he could be added within the next day or so.

UPDATE: Since this was posted, the transaction list was released which show that Carter has now been reinstated. So, the Jets are at 80 now and Hall is the only player still on Covid-19 reserve.

In addition, the Jets are apparently about to make another release, perhaps to sign Guerriero or reinstate Hall tomorrow?
