Final cuts are coming tomorrow and this move is probably as surprising as any we'll see then:
Jets have released former starting linebacker James Burgess, per source.— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) September 4, 2020
Burgess missed time on Covid-19 reserve and then hurt his back in camp so he fell behind Neville Hewitt, Avery Williamson and Blake Cashman in the rotation.
The Jets already released special teamer BJ Bello and are expected to be without Patrick Onwuasor for a few more weeks so it will be interesting to see if they put a claim in for someone to bolster this unit.
Burgess wasn't on the opening day roster last year either, but ended up as the team's leading tackler.
