Roster News: Jets release Watts from IR

The Jets are parting ways with a young defensive lineman.

If the Jets liked Watts, they could have retained him on injured reserve all season and brought him back as an exclusive rights free agent next year, although they may still be able to re-sign him anyway because it's unlikely he'll have much of a market. He would theoretically be eligible to join another team and play for them this season, though, and could even join the Jets again as long as they are a certain amount (usually six weeks) into the season.

The only Jet placed on injured reserve so far that hasn't been released with a settlement is Kobe King who is still only 23 and has two years left on his contract, so he might be a candidate to retain.
