Roster News: Jets sign 4th QB; Whitehead waived/injured

The Jets made a roster move today:

Adding a fourth quarterback was a no-brainer, even though Todd Bowles had previously said it wasn't happening. Now the Jets can give their back-up linemen some quality reps in the last preseason game without putting any of their top three quarterbacks in jeopardy.

Wolford was with the Jets on a tryout basis at rookie camp in May. He's only 6'1" and an undrafted rookie so he has no NFL experience. However, he led the ACC with 29 touchdown passes last year, while throwing for over 3,000 yards and only six interceptions in leading Wake Forest to an 8-4 record in his 12 starts.

Last season he threw for 400 yards and four scores in a bowl game win over Texas A&M and also outduelled Lamar Jackson in a 42-32 win which saw him throw for 461 and five scores. He also has some running ability, as he rushed for a career-high 136 yards and three scores against Syracuse.

The loss of Whitehead isn't really a big deal. He had always been behind Andre Roberts in the battle for a job as the return man and never got close to being on any of the top units on offense.
