Roster News: Jets sign K Zuerlein

The Jets are bringing in reinforcements on special teams:

Zuerlein is 34 and was an all-pro back in 2017. He missed six extra points and six field goals last year, including three costly misses in key losses. However, he made one game-winner and one crucial game-tying kick.

He had a good season in 2020 but his inconsistent play in 2021 was attributed to an offseason back injury that prevented him from getting back to his best.

Zuerlein will compete with Eddy Pineiro, who signed a low-level RFA tender, and Matt Ammendola who signed a futures deal during the offseason. He was set to earn just over $2 million in 2022, so the contract from the Jets probably won't be significant.
