Roster News: Jets sign Womack to practice squad
The Jets made a minor transaction to kick off Dolphins week:
We've signed CB Samuel Womack to the practice squad and released WR Brandon Smith from the practice squad.

Womack is a former fifth round pick and the Jets will be his fourth NFL team. He has started 10 games in his career, including eight with the Colts last season, racking up 66 tackles, 12 pass breakups and three interceptions.
He is 5'10" and has played exclusively on the outside since his rookie year, when he also played in the slot. He ran a 4.40 ahead of the 2022 draft and had 11 special teams tackles in his first two seasons.
It's shame to see Smith, who was so impressive in the past two preseasons, never really get a shot in regular season action but with Tyler Johnson only getting one snap and Arian Smith inactive on Sunday, he was a long way off from being in line for an opportunity - especially if Garrett Wilson comes off injured reserve before the season is over.
The Jets also released Byron Cowart from injured reserve. He probably would have been a starter if he didn't get hurt in training camp but the Jets have since added three defensive tackles via trade and signed Khalen Saunders, so it's obvious he wasn't in their plans, and was ineligible to return and out of contract at the end of the season anyway.
