Roster News: Jets to sign QB David Fales

The Jets need a new backup quarterback with confirmation coming through yesterday that Trevor Siemian is out for the season with ankle ligament damage.

Predictably, they have gone with someone who has experience in Adam Gase's system, as they will be signing David Fales this morning, according to Manish Mehta from the NY Daily News.

Fales is a 28-year old former sixth round pick who has thrown fewer than 50 passes at the NFL level. He didn't play in 2018, but was with the Lions in preseason. In three games, he threw for 310 yards and a touchdown, but completed less than 50 percent of his passes and was intercepted once and sacked nine times.

In the 2017 season finale, Fales passed for 265 yards and a touchdown in relief of Jay Cutler as Miami were 22-3 down in the fourth quarter but rallied to pull within 22-16 by the end. He also rushed for a touchdown. Other than that game, Fales has only thrown six NFL passes.

The corresponding move will presumably be to send Siemian to injured reserve, but we'll let you know if there are any over moves to report.
