Roster News: Jets to sign Rishard Matthews

The Jets have opted to upgrade their receiving corps:

Here's what we wrote about Matthews when he worked out for the team last week:

The 29-year old former seventh round pick was one of Tennessee's best receivers over the past two years having spent his first four seasons with the Dolphins. In 2016, he caught 65 passes for 945 yards and nine touchdowns and had another productive year last year, although his numbers were down slightly because he missed a couple of games.

However, this year he wasn't getting many looks and requested his release a few weeks ago as a result. In three games, he caught just three passes for 11 yards.

Matthews ran a 4.44 at his pro day and is a decent downfield threat who has averaged 15 yards per catch and racked up 10 plays of more than 40 yards over the past three years.

We'll let you know once the Jets announce the corresponding move, which will probably see Deontay Burnett released back to the practice squad or Doug Middleton placed on injured reserve.
