Roster News: Jets to sign Ty Montgomery

We already knew the Jets' offensive backfield would have a very different look this season. It continues to take shape after a move for a veteran:

The 26-year old Montgomery was drafted as a wide receiver in the third round of the 2015 draft but has since converted to running back.

Montgomery has 107 catches, 932 rushing yards and 10 total touchdowns in his career so far, mostly with the Packers. He once rushed for 162 yards in a 2016 win over the Bears and had a big impact in a postseason win over Dallas with 81 yards from scrimmage and two touchdowns.

He also has some kick return experience, although he notably lost a costly late-game fumble last year, having been expressly told to take a knee. This led to him being traded from Green Bay to Baltimore.

The Jets have added veteran backs a few times in recent years that ended up not making the team (Thomas Rawls and Bernard Pierce for example), but this move will definitely put pressure on recent draft picks Elijah McGuire and Trenton Cannon.
