Roster News: Josh Bellamy and Trumaine Johnson placed on IR

The Jets have confirmed the two signings we reported earlier and announced that two players are going onto injured reserve as the corresponding moves:

Bellamy is under contract for a non-guaranteed $2.25 million next year. As for Trumaine Johnson, he has three years left on his five year deal but the team will make a net cap saving of $3 million if they cut him before the third day of the 2020 league year. His $11 million salary for 2020 would otherwise become guaranteed on that date.

The Jets still have five wide receivers on the roster so Vyncint Smith and Braxton Berrios will be available for cover with Bellamy gone. However, the Jets are a little light at cornerback now with just four full-time corners on the roster.

While recent addition Blake Countess can play cornerback in an emergency, the team has to decide this week whether to activate Blessuan Austin. The rookie has been practicing with the team for the last three weeks after beginning the year on the non-football injury list as he rehabbed an ACL tear.
