Roster News: LB Luvu promoted to active roster, FB Thomas released

The Jets have made a move ahead of Monday night's game:

With Josh Martin still in concussion protocol and new signing Jeremiah Attaochu having been limited in practice due to a calf issue, this was a necessary move.

Jordan Jenkins and Brandon Copeland will presumably start at outside linebacker, but don't be surprised to see the Jets work in some four-man fronts where players like Henry Anderson and Leonard Williams can get some reps on the edge.

Attaochu might not been ready to contribute much yet, even if he is healthy, especially since his preparation time has been limited.

Based on preseason, the fullback position isn't going to play a major part in the Jets offense early on in the year, so the Jets can afford to let Thomas go. All the tight ends are capable of playing the occasional snap in the backfield if required.

With most NFL teams playing on Sunday, Thomas is almost certain to clear waivers so the team will have the option to give Luvu's spot on the practice squad to him. Alternatively, they might just leave it empty because they'll need a roster spot if they activate Kevin Pierre-Louis on Tuesday so they can place whoever they release on the practice squad if they clear waivers.
