Roster News: Winters to IR, Simon signed to active roster

The Jets made a couple of roster moves to get this final week of practice underway:

Winters, who signed a big-money extension in the offseason, is going to have abdominal surgery. Simon - a 2015 seventh round pick - played in place of the injured Steve McLendon at the end of last season and held up well but has been on the practice squad all year.

In addition to these moves, the Jets also signed lineman Francis Kallon to the practice squad. Kallon is a good athlete who reportedly ran a 4.8 at 295 pounds at Georgia Tech's pro day. They'll probably sign him to a futures deal at the end of the season.

Kallon was a collegiate teammate of Patrick Gamble, who was with the Jets in preseason. He played defensive tackle there and fleetingly during preseason with the Steelers but the Packers were looking into converting him into an offensive tackle when he was with the team earlier this season.

At practice today, Todd Bowles provided an injury update, confirming that seven starters did not practice. However, he would not rule any of the seven out for Sunday at this stage.
