UFL update: Jackson stymied in week four after hot start

We recently broke down ex-Jets players participating in the UFL this season. Since this is the quiet before the storm with draft activity due to peak next week, let's take this opportunity to update how things are going in the season so far.

Four weeks into the season, let's review who the standouts have been and which ex-Jets are contributing.

The main headline is running back Deon Jackson, who was leading the league with 224 rushing yards and five touchdowns after three weeks. However, in week four, he was held to 25 yards on 11 touches. He had 97 yards and three touchdowns, including a 48-yarder, in one game and then also had a 60-yard run in another game to pad his league-leading yards per carry average.

The top pass catcher among ex-Jets has been Isaiah Winstead, who has 14 catches for 175 yards in the first four games. 114 of those yards came in one game against Orlando, although he was targeted 14 times that day.

Less impactful at the skill positions have been Xazavian Valladay, who has 43 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries, plus 20 receiving yards, and Tarik Black, who has five catches for 85 yards, including a 44-yarder.

The only ex-Jets quarterback to see action has been Brandon Silvers, who has gone 44-of-78 for 460 yards and two touchdowns but also has three interceptions.

On defense, linebacker Anthony Hines III has been productive with 21 tackles, including three tackles for loss. Cornerback Mario Goodrich also made an impact with three pass breakups and a 40-yard pick-six. In addition, Pita Taumoepenu has 1.5 sacks and Brandon Smith has three tackles for loss.

Who have been the standouts that might interest the Jets and other teams, though?

The Jets signed kicker Harrison Mevis from this league last year, so perhaps they could repeat the trick with Matt McCrane this year. McCrane has made seven of eight field goals, including two 60-yarders.

The top quarterbacks have been Austin Reed, who leads the league with 907 passing yards and 11 touchdowns, with just two interceptions. Jack Plummer has also done well, although he only has six touchdowns. He leads the league with a 71 percent completion percentage and only has one interception.

The top receiver has been Tyler Vaughns, who leads the league across the board with 28 catches, 390 yards and four touchdowns.

On defense, the main standouts have been Cam Gill, who has 5.5 sacks and Shaun Wade, who has nine passes defensed, including three interceptions. The 27-year old Wade is a former fifth round pick out of Ohio State.

We'll update again at the end of the season...
