What did Todd Bowles say after Tuesday's practice?

Here were some of the more interesting comments from Todd Bowles following Tuesday's practice:

  • He spent no time on the "official" depth chart and they haven't decided who will start the first game at quarterback.
  • Christian Hackenberg is continuing to make progress and has had good and bad plays.
  • Lorenzo Mauldin is still day-to-day and Xavier Coleman has a bone bruise. Bilal Powell is getting treatment on his neck and will return when he's feeling better.
  • They haven't decided what to do at wide receiver because they're young and don't know what they have yet. He wouldn't rule out adding someone if the right guy became available, but it doesn't sound like a high priority right now.
  • Robby Anderson is fast and tough and although he doesn't consider him as physical because he doesn't weigh much, they'll put him in positions to produce. Bowles talked up Anderson's route running and said he was only mainly a vertical threat last year because that was his role.
  • He won't know who the candidates for the other starting role are until they've played some preseason games.
  • They're still moving people around and trying different combinations at this stage so you shouldn't read too much into the rotations at camp.
  • Rookie receivers play everywhere around the league so they just have to get theirs up to speed and the quarterbacks just have to play their game regardless of who they're throwing to.
  • Bowles didn't want to talk about Sheldon Richardson's comments on Marshall, repeatedly saying that he had "no time for that B.S." He even cussed once.
  • He liked some of the tempo and hitting at practice.
  • He likes the way Elijah McGuire and Romar Morris run routes, but said they need to pick up the blitz better and that they're getting a chance to show what they can do.

We'll let you know if anyone else says anything interesting.
