What did Todd Bowles say after Wednesday's practice?

Here were some of the more interesting comments from Todd Bowles following Wednesday's practice:

  • He expects to keep all three quarterbacks, but "that could change".
  • Morris Claiborne's injury isn't an old condition, it's just sore from the game.
  • He's not sure how long Jason Vander Laan will be out with what he called a "pec or shoulder injury" but that was the reason behind them adding a new tight end. (They signed Brandon Barnes this morning).
  • He is happy with the two days of practice that Matt Forté has had since his return but they'll discuss before Saturday's game if he's going to play.
  • In terms of the quarterback rotation he said he's not counting reps and you shouldn't read too much into them. They'll be assessing based on camp and mini-camp as a whole.
  • He deflected questions about the quarterback rotation for Saturday by repeatedly saying "we'll sit down and talk about it" and "it's still early".
  • He's not worried about all the new faces on offense, saying that they've been together for a while now and that they'll be fine.
  • The elimination of the 75-man cutdown has no bearing on the third game whatsoever, it just means they have more bodies available for the last game.
  • Bryce Petty has picked up the offensive well lately and is throwing downfield more.
  • They had been planning to give Lorenzo Mauldin an epidural shot, but he's feeling better so they're just going to keep monitoring him.
  • With reference to the players who'll start off on the suspended list, he said there's a fine line between getting them plenty of playing time because they'll be sitting out for the next few weeks and ensuring those players replacing them get enough preparation.
  • When asked about rookies Marcus Maye and Jamal Adams, Bowles said he is most impressed by their maturity and ability to learn. He said he's not worried that Adams missed a few tackles in the last game, noting that he left his feet a few times, but they corrected that in practice. He reiterated that they're further along than other rookie safeties he's coached, and attributes that to their study habits.
  • Dylan Donahue's first team reps today were for no particular reason other than that they need to see him play more since he missed some time.

We'll let you know if anyone else says anything interesting.
