Buzz: Jets working out WR Jeremy Kerley

Interesting news out of Florham Park today, as former Jets wide receiver Jeremy Kerley is reportedly in the house for a workout.

Kerley barely played in 2015 - Todd Bowles' first year as Jets head coach - and then was released after the season, but has played and produced well in San Francisco since his departure. At the time, Chan Gailey didn't really have a role for him, given his preference for putting bigger receivers in the slot, but he would be a better fit for John Morton's offense.

The Jets may also view him as a more reliable punt return option than anyone they have on the current roster. Right now, Kalif Raymond - signed off waivers over the weekend - is the most likely candidate to return kicks and punts on opening day, but they may opt to try and sneak him onto their practice squad if they've yet to be convinced he's the guy.

The Jets may be considering Kerley as someone they can bring in after week one, so they don't need to guarantee his full salary. With Jalin Marshall returning from his suspension in week five, that would enable them to give Kerley a return role without committing to him for any longer than they need to.
