Jets Camp Practice Recap - 8/17/23

Media was on hand for the Jets' training camp practice today. Here's what went down according to those on hand:

  • The Jets were not in pads with a day off tomorrow ahead of Saturday's game and practice was shorter than usual;
  • New running back Dalvin Cook joined starting guards Laken Tomlinson and Alijah Vera-Tucker, and reserve Carter Warren, in the rehab area;
  • Carl Lawson missed practice again, although he has now returned to the rehab area. Corey Davis was excused for personal reasons but cornerbacks coach Tony Oden returned to the sideline with his arm in a sling;
  • Mekhi Becton had his first right tackle reps of camp, albeit only with the second unit. He had a good practice, by all accounts;
  • Breece Hall took part in practice including team drills for the first time;
  • Ashtyn Davis got some first team reps on defense;
  • Sauce Gardner was called for pass interference after grabbing Garrett Wilson, who had a step on him deep;
  • The first team offense had three offensive penalties on their first drive and the only completion was stopped for no gain to Tyler Conklin;
  • Xavier Gipson made a circus catch with the backups;
  • Hall looked good on a few carries and then had a nice gain on a slant from out wide;
  • Aaron Rodgers was intercepted by Jordan Whitehead as he threw behind Wilson;
  • Rodgers responded with a nice 20-yard corner route to Randall Cobb with the protection holding up well;
  • He then hit Cobb again for a 10-yard touchdown on the roll to complete an eight play drive. Cobb beat Bryce Hall. Allen Lazard also had a catch on the drive as Rodgers was 5-for-9 with a touchdown and an interception but did not get sacked all day;
  • Zaire Barnes broke up a pass on the third team defense and Pita Taumoepenu got a pressure (possible sack) against Becton; and
  • Tim Boyle connected on a big gain to Irvin Charles.
