Jets Camp Practice Recap - 8/23/23

Media was on hand for the Jets' training camp practice today. Here's what went down according to those on hand:

  • Duane Brown was cleared from the PUP list and took part in practice (but not team drills) for the first time;
  • The fans were on hand for the last time this year. Camp breaks tomorrow;
  • Carter Warren, Wes Schweitzer, Kenny Yeboah and Israel Abanikanda were in the rehab area with Brown. Schweitzer limped off late in practice yesterday;
  • Jarrick Bernard-Converse, who remains on the PUP list, was running off at the side with training staff;
  • Corey Davis remains away for personal reasons and Robert Saleh said before the practice that he can take as long as he needs, so this could continue to be the case for a while;
  • Joe Tippmann took part in individual drills;
  • Trystan Colon took reps as the first team right guard as Alijah Vera-Tucker split time with him, presumably on a "pitch count";
  • Quinnen Williams had a couple of pressure as the starting offense ran a two-minute drill;
  • In a situation where they were down five with under two minutes to go, Aaron Rodgers led the offense downfield as he ran for a first down when Will McDonald flushed him from the pocket and then connected on a 30+ yard touchdown pass to a leaping Allen Lazard with Sauce Gardner in coverage;
  • On his own drive, Zach Wilson went 6-of-6 but the drive stalled when he took a sack from Pita Taumoepenu;
  • Rodgers hit Garrett Wilson down the field after Bam Knight picked up the blitz;
  • Breece Hall, practicing in pads for the first time, picked up good yardage behind Vera-Tucker a few times;
  • Rodgers found Carter for a big gain on play action, then also hit CJ Uzomah and Randall Cobb down the field and Hardman for a big gain over the middle;
  • Deslin Alexandre blew up consecutive running plays and Zack Kuntz got open a few times for the third team;
  • Irvin Charles caught four passes from Wilson, who also audibled and found Xavier Gipson with a quick pass;
  • The Jets operated out of a three safety look with Tony Adams, Adrian Amos and Jordan Whitehead all in the game;
  • Lazard left practice to head to the locker room early and John Franklin-Myers was walking gingerly at one point;
  • Mekhi Becton pancaked Whitehead on a run but then allowed a McDonald sack;
  • Bryce Huff also got a sack, beating Billy Turner;
  • The Jets also had a false start and multiple drops in the session, including one by Cobb;
  • Zaire Barnes had a nice hit on Knight as the second units faced off; and
  • Trey Dean blew up a run in the backfield as Wilson ended practice by going three-and-out with the second unit.
