Roster News: WR Davis to retire from the NFL

The Jets had been without Corey Davis for a week or so due to personal reasons and today he announced via his personal instagram account that he's stepping away from football.

Davis was part of a crowded receiver group with the likes of Garrett Wilson, Allen Lazard, Mecole Hardman and Randall Cobb and seemed to have been quiet for most of cap, fuelling speculation he could be released or traded.

The Jets will save around $10 million in cap space as a result of this move which could potentially be used to add another receiver for depth. Alternatively it gives the Jets an opportunity to carry an undrafted rookie, special teams contributor or one of each now that a spot has been freed up on their roster.

In 22 games with the Jets, Davis caught 66 passes for over a thousand yards and six touchdowns.
